The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization that gathers the latest knowledge, research and ideas in avalanche safety and create avalanche training courses that reflect the needs of today’s backcountry travelers. The AIARE Level 1 course is a 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. The course consists of an online learning module, a 2.5 hour evening classroom session at The Rec and 2 days in the field at Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Instructional sessions are 30% classroom and 70% field work. A fundamental part of any backcountry adventurer’s toolkit is avalanche awareness, so brush up or re-educate yourself with this AIARE Level 1 avalanche course! This course offers the chance to learn the best practices for avalanche safety against a stunning backdrop in Aspen, Colorado. The AIARE Level 1 course is a must for any winter backcountry endeavors.
